Priority Check: Each router on the LAN has an IS-IS priority value (default is usually 64). The router with the highest priority becomes the DIS.


Tiebreaker: If two or more routers have the same priority, IS-IS uses the highest MAC address of the router's interface on that LAN as the tiebreaker.

The router with the numerically highest MAC address wins and becomes the DIS.
